"If you love me, you will keep my commandments."
I think I love Jesus. But how, and what commandment?
I love Jesus? At least I think I do, it’s a conflict within my heart, a fight in my mind. The flesh and the will of the Spirit of God within me, my will in between, at war. My love for Him is now where near perfect, that is evident.
God is stronger than me, than my will, than my sin, the war already won through the work of the Son of God, the Lamb of God, on the Roman cross of two thousand years ago. That is what the Gospel tells me, He is victorious, He has overcome the world, He has risen from the dead, He, Jesus is King.
Then this statement, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments”.
How do we love Him, the King of kings?
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
Thank you God that you have revealed that answer through the only Son of God. My belief rests on what He has said, it is the only thing I can do.
34 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
(John 14:15 - in context)
"If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.
“I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command.
